Charangul , a little village with 160 households in Semiliguda block of Koraput district was all set to mark its presence in the state map for being the second village to have fulfilled the target of having an individual toilet for each household under the convergence of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan(NBA) with MGNREGS, said Manoranjan Mali , executive engineer of RWSS, Koraput on Saturday.
Under this convergence plan, a sum of Rs.4,600/- was shared from NBA while Rs.4,500/- was allotted under MGNREGS.
With a plan to construct the individual household toilet (IHL) at a cost of Rs.10,000, the individual family had to spare Rs.900/- in the form of labour or material like chips and boulders, he added. People like Bijay Gumandi and Budu Jani ,who were categorised as BPL, identified APL, SC/ST, Migrated people, small and marginal farmers, landless labourers , women headed family and physically challenged got selected for the programme. In the process entire village was covered to have IHL.
The community was sensitised over the issue of sanitation in a five-day long orientation under Community led total sanitation (CLTS), and now while the villagers were working hard in constructing their own toilets, practicing the habit of covering the waste after going for open defecation as a first step towards total sanitation in the village.
The programme apart from facilitating the construction of toilets, would provide 3,360 mandays in the next 21 days under MGNREGS which was a remarkable achievement, Mr.Mali added.
