Collaborative programme on Tribal Studies between CUO and University of new Zealand
Collaborative programme on Indigenous studies was launched by Central university of Orissa (CUO) with University of Wananga , New Zealand in a function being organised in CUO campus at Sunabeda in Koraput district on Tuesday. A team consisting of Graham Smith , CEO & Vice-Chancellor of Te- Whare Wananga ‘O’ Awanuiarangi Indigenous university , New Zealand , Melanie Chapman , International coordinator and Perya Shot , International Manager joined hands with Surabhi Banerjee , vice chancellor of CUO in launching the programme .
Various research-oriented documentations on tribal issues like preservation of their cultural heritages, agricultural practices, ecology, customs, professions, traditional practices, tribal health, indigenous knowledge and education would be undertaken by the CUO through its Centre for Indigenous Studies while the academic exchange programmes including student and faculty exchange programme with Wananga University of New Zealand will broaden the intellectual horizon of students and faculties of both the countries , Dr.Banerjee said .The MoU between both the universities will be signed on Wednesday , she added.
The three member team from New Zealand was received in the campus by tribal women of Koraput by dancing Dhemsa , the well appreciated form of tribal dance of the region
