Competitions for Kumara Utsav-2012 at Koraput on 27th October-2012

Sachin Jadhav , District Collector inaugurated the series of competitions related to the culture and tradition of Odia families like Puchi , Hulahuli , Jhoti and Odiani Costumes being organised by Kumara Purnima Celebration Committee at Koraput today evening . He had all the praise for the participants .

Lathi Yatra at Sabara Srikhetra on Vijaya Dasami-2012

Lathi Yatra , one of the unique ways to celebrate Vijaya Dasami by the tribals at Koraput . According to the tradition , the tribal village priests used to carry their village deities in the form of Lathi (tall sticks ) after performing traditional rituals . They then were marching forward to join Jeypore Dussehra in invitation from the King . However since the establishment of Sabara Srikhetra , many villages stayed back at Maa Bimala temple in the premises of the temple complex of Lord Jagannath at Koraput . The priests with other villagers then take out a rally in the town collectively . Today was such a wonderful moment to witness the joyous event in the afternoon . It was great .

Vijaya Dasami Morning -2012 With flowers

These tribal women from the nearby villages had reached Koraput town early in the morning with flowers for people like us who wished to worship Mother Goddess could get up from our bed . On behalf of all the Children of Koraput we wish to offer our gratitude to them for their service . May Mother Durga give them health , wealth and opportunities to grow as they might have wished to .
