Bamboo Shoot in Koraput Market on 23rd August-2012

Bamboo Shoot , locally known as Baunsa Karadi is one of most delicious item for the tribal communities of Koraput region . However it is also nothing less attracted into the modern kitchen of the elite in the town . Now it is avail;able in plenty . The tribal women are seen peeling the shoot before selling on the roadside . 

Raw Cashew in Koraput Market

Koraput is blessed with innovations and exclusive material to enjoy . Nature gives varieties of food material for its inhabitants . One of them is Raw Cashew  (Kancha Kaju ) . This is obtained by breaking the Cashew Nut  when it is green . Tribal men and women venture into the Cashew farms across the district and collect these nuts . Members of the family sit for almost a day to break the nuts and take out the delicious seeds -the Cashew . While in the process they experience pain for the sticking gum ( Kasha) , they bring them to the market and sell sitting on the street corners . At Koraput they are selling at Rs.220/- a kilo . I was asking them , they said that this year the crop yield was less . Hence it would not last long . Today I brought half kilo . We can cook it with a little amount of Onion or with adding some Tomato or even by putting some in a mixed vegetable curry . Any way it is nice . I am longing for today's lunch .
