She is Chinmayee Panda , a girl from Koraput who topped the list of successful candidate for OJS this year . Here in this photo she is sitting in her house at Koraput with the family members . 2700 applicants appeared for the Qualifying exa

ms and 1505 succeeded and out of which 116 appeared in the Mains against 55 Posts , Miss Panda said . In her journey to this height , she had studied in Sri Aurobindo Purnango Sikhya Kendra , Koraput till her Tenth standard . They she studied Science in her +2 stream at Khalikote college at Berhampur before deciding to join the Integrated Law at Bani Vihar , Bhubaneswar . While congratulating her for the success in her life , I was very happy as she was also one of the many students that I had interacted with as a teacher while she was reading in LKG in Pragati School at Koraput in 1993-94 in addition to her becoming a Koraputia in birth( Even though there is no role of mine in her success ) . We wish her a great journey in her career in serving more people through giving conscious judgement in the courts of Law where she will taking the chair .

Reading books way of life for this septuagenarian

For a 73-year-old man from Deula village in Nabarangpur district reading books has been a way of life over the last 50 years .

Kanhei Mahapatra was at Sri Jagannath temple here as a part of his annual pilgrimage to the temple that he has been undertaking for the last four years . A retired government servant and released from all the pressure of the family with children getting settled in different positions in society, he now has greater opportunities to read books than before .

The journey to explore the spirit of ultimate truth in each and everything around him which he had begun in his early twenties had facilitated him to read hundreds of books year after year. After his retirement he was trying to find a place where he could concentrate on the content of the books more than anything else . In this process, he visited severalholy places in the region and at last he discovered the peaceful atmosphere and environment of Yatri Kutir, the low cost guest house of Sabara Srikhetra at Koraput .

Mr. Mahapatra reads all kinds of books that connect himself with the eternal truth and evolving consciousness in each being on the surface of earth. He was reading a book on comparison of human brain with a computer when this correspondent met him in the guest house on Friday. Reading books does not limit itself to the reasons but extends one out of all the boundaries of limitations. Even at the age of 73 years the habit of reading could add more opportunities to grow in building the life, he said. However, while expressing his concern over declining practice of reading various books other than the textbooks by children, he said parents should expose their children to libraries.

Samara Pangi is a face in the crowd . A sweeper in the district headquarters hospital here, he is the one who has been in great demand when death catches up with one in an unnatural way — be it an accident or a suicide. In the past 25 years, he has put his knife on at least 4,000 bodies in the postmortem room, according to Samara. He will retire in 2020.

Recalling his first few days of dissecting bodies, he said it was the most difficult job to do on the earth as it called for skill in addition to victory over fear and hesitation. Alcohol had helped him do the job for quite a long time; later on, as advised by doctors, he kicked the habit. Now, he does not take a single drop of liquor before or after dissection. Whenever a body arrived at the postmortem room in the hospital, the first priority was to ensure that family members were sent away at the earliest so as to minimise their pain of losing their dear one in an un natural way, Samara said.

For the job he had chosen, he had been asked by his tribal community to move away. However, ignorance over ‘such a noble profession’ had given way to realisation and, gradually, his family was accepted by his community. Now, he was appreciated by one and all for his readiness to do any amount of dissection and any time.  However the greatest worry that haunts Samara is the issue of successor. None of his family members or friends wished to take his work.

His son had become a teacher and all those who were being trained by him were also not interested in taking up the challenges of the job.  A greater financial incentive might attract someone for the job, he said.
