CUO Organizes Seminar on ‘Tradition of Sanskrit Kavyas’
The Department of Sanskrit, Central University of Orissa, Koraput organized a Half-Day Seminar
lecture on “Tradition of Sanskrit Kavyas” at its Sunabeda campus on 13.09.2018. The programme
was inaugurated by Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor as Chief Guest. The
seminar lecture was delivered by Prof. Raghunath Panda, Retd. Professor & Head, P.G Department
of Sanskrit, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Kumuda Prasad Acharya, Department In-Charge,
Department of Sanskrit delivered the welcome address.
Prof. Mohanty in his inaugural address congratulated students and faculty of Sanskrit Department
for organizing a successful half-day seminar lecture. He explained the glory of Sanskrit and
appealed the students to speak in Sanskrit and spread the language to others. He said “If
someone wants to know about India and Indian culture, he must know Sanskrit first. The conducts
of every human being purify, with the study of Sanskrit”. He also underlined teacher students
relationships of Indian and West.
Prof. Panda in his seminar lecture elaborated the relationship between the Western literature and
Indian literature with special reference to Sanskrit and emphasized the tradition of Kavyasashtra
and also gave an idea about the Kavyaprakasha of Mammata and Gitagovinda of Kavi Jayadeva.
He said “the Kavyas of Sanskrit are enrich in knowledge and it can give solutions of so many
unsolved problems of our society. We must respect our ancient tradition and we should widely
practice it for its better”. Speaking on the other Kavyas of Sanskrit Literature Prof. Panda
elaborated the glory of Naishadha, Kalidasa, Bharavi and Magha.
Dr. Kumuda Prasad Acharya, Lecturer, Dept. of Sanskrit presented a Paper on
Naishadhiyacharitam, and Dr. Birendra Kumar Sadangi, Lecturer, Dept. of Sanskrit presented a
paper on Kiratarjuna mahakavye Vidyamadhava comentri. Students also presented paper on
Sushree Subhada Priyadarshini Rath and Sri Biswanath Chaudhury, students of the Department of
Sanskrit, compeered the programme. Dr. Birendra Kumar Sadangi, Lecturer, Dept. of Sanskrit
offered formal vote of thanks. Students, faculty and staff were present at large.
As many as 539 new species of plants and animals were discovered by scientists and taxonomists in India in 2017 .It’s a big plus for Biodiversity of the country ..

Koraputonline says : The report speaks about the findings of Western Ghats and Himalayas .Don’t know if any research was done in the Eastern Ghats including the Deomali range .Hope researchers would pay attention towards this possibility next time .

Very often we take environment for granted and don’t think twice before being the cause of pollution , said Kanwar Vishal Singh , Superintendent of Police , Koraput while attending observation of 44th World Environment Day by district environment society in the premises of DFO , Koraput today .Plastic free environment is necessary to move ahead for the present day life and in the best interest of future generation .Each individual as a part of collective society should come forward to use minimum quantity of plastic in daily life .As an initiative to lead the mission to make a Plastic free world , office of SP , Koraput would be made plastic free zone within a couple of days , he added .While expressing his concern over the rise in plastic pollution even on the top of Deomali mountains for the irrational use of plastics by the civilised society , he lauded the effort launched by office of the DFO, Koraput in creating awareness among people on environment protection .
As a part of the mission to make Koraput a plastic free zone , a week long special drive to buy back plastic water bottles from the public at 50 np per bottle was taken up by the department .In this process about 4500 plastic bottles were collected which were used in making a vertical garden and in making pencil box for children , P.Purnima , DFO , Koraput said .An exhibition of the garden was inaugurated by Mr.Singh on the occasion .
In her address , Ms.Purnima said that protection of environment had to come from within and should not end by blaming others for any kind of degradation .Prior to 1972 environment protection was not considered a major issue .But after UN took up the issue the importance of taking care of environment as a priority issue was realised .Plastic has been a major source of concern and efforts are taken to minimise it’s use through creating awareness among people , Ms.Purnima added.
A silent play was staged by artists from Biju Juba Bahini to sensitise people on the need to protect environment .Eight persons from across the district were felicitated with Prakruti Mitra Award for their contribution in saving the environment in their neighborhood .
Governor of Odisha is visiting Koraput tomorrow (24-5-18) .Media persons received Pass cards at DIPRO office today to enter the Sadbhavana Sabhagruha where he would be taking to the officials at around12 noon.
According to media reports Smt.Usha Padhee from Civil Aviation ministry is visiting Jeypore airstrip to see the development today .We wish her visit to add more value to the airport in making it operational at the earliest .Welcome madam
In a freak incident, only front wheel of Engine of 18005-Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari express derailed near at Singapore Road railway station at around 17.16 hrs today (18.05.2018) between Singapore Road-Keutiguda section . No coaches were involved in the derailment, no injury to anybody. All the passengers are safe. Railway Officials and Accident Relief Train from Rayagada rushed to site for restoration works.
